Herts Careline provides community alarm and telecare services to older and vulnerable people living across the whole of Hertfordshire in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council.

Community pendant help alarms can provide much needed reassurance. It means the users and their friends, families and carers, know help is on hand if they feel unwell or have a fall, at the press of a button, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from our Hertfordshire based Control Room.  A Careline alarm can support independence at home and enable people of all ages to live in their own homes for longer.

The emergency Control Room will be open as usual 24/7 over the entire festive period.  Referrals received after 24th December 2021 will be processed on 4th January 2022.

Our NightLight Crisis Cafes are open from 6pm to 11pm weekdays and from 3pm to 11pm weekends (Watford and Ware). The call companions idea is very simple: a volunteer call companion (telephone befriender) calls the same older person either weekly or fortnightly at a mutually agreed time for an informal chat. The call companions service is aimed at people who are • aged 55+ • identify as socially isolated or lonely • have sufficiently good hearing to take on regular phone calls. Our volunteers all receive training, which includes topics such as safeguarding and how to engage in difficult conversations.

The Bereavement Support Helpline is being run by a team of hospice staff and volunteers, trained to deliver immediate emotional support and practical guidance for those who would like extra support after the loss of someone close.

The helpline is operating from Monday 22nd June, 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday, and is open to all local people living in West Essex and East Hertfordshire who feel they would benefit from extra support in relation to a bereavement – no matter how long ago their loss was.

The Ware Charities is a local organisation, long established and funded by legacies.  We operate in Ware, Thundridge and Wareside areas only.

In appropriate circumstances we provide financial support to individuals and families struggling for basic living needs (e.g., critical white goods and furnishings) and people struggling with certain priority financial issues (if receiving the ongoing support of a financial or debt counsellor or equivalent).

We also support those needing help with education expenses (eg school trips, education equipment including IT etc) and adults seeking to retrain and needing help with course fees.

Shape Up

Shape Up is a free 12-week weight management course for men delivered by Watford Football Club in East Herts and Broxbourne districts. The course is aimed at men aged 18 to 65 years-old with a BMI of 30 or over and men from the BAME community with a BMI of 28 or over. The aims are to improve the participant’s healthy lifestyle knowledge as well as ensure a sustainable weight loss rather than the typically short-term benefit of a diet-based programme.
